Smart Meter’s 2018 Marked by Momentum Gains, Industry Partnerships and Third-Party Validation for the iGlucose® Cellular Diabetes Care Solution

TAMPA, Fla- January 22, 2019- Smart Meter, LLC, an innovative diabetes management data, technology and solutions company, experienced growing market traction for its iGlucose® Cellular Diabetes Care Solution in 2018 – bolstered by strategic partnerships and industry findings through comprehensive reports that support the benefits of the company’s game-changing technology.

A survey of 170 healthcare providers conducted by Smart Meter at the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) event in August of 2018 found that sharing blood glucose results and patient communication between visits are top challenges for diabetes healthcare providers. iGlucose helps clinicians overcome these barriers by implementing effective patient-centered strategies for simplified diabetes management. By utilizing global cellular technology, iGlucose sends blood glucose readings and other information to a personal web portal. iGlucose delivers timely and complete results easily and automatically overcoming many of the challenges of traditional Bluetooth offerings which helps improve the patient experience. In the web portal, a person with diabetes and their designated Circle of Care can access customized trend reports and digital logbooks that are automatically updated with results every time the person with diabetes tests. Patient communication is also enhanced through automated and customized text and/or email messages from their Circle of Care.

A study conducted at Howard University in Washington, D.C. monitored real-time data for 90 days leveraging iGlucose and demonstrated an average one-point A1C reduction in 41 patients. Surveys showed 65% of study participants reported iGlucose enabled improved support with family involvement and 78% reported improved discussions with their healthcare team with iGlucose data. By utilizing the iGlucose platform and obtaining real-time data, clinicians found that over 70% of their patients required some form of intervention between appointments.

“The iGlucose solution is an excellent tool for my practice, as it allows for greater insights between patient visits. It optimizes precious time during patient visits, as we do not have to spend time downloading meters or trying to counsel a patient without seeing their latest trends because they left their meter home,” said Dr. Gail L. Nunlee-Bland, MD, Howard University Diabetes Treatment Center. “We saw significant benefits to both the patients and our practice during the study, and we look forward to expanding our use of the iGlucose system to additional patients.”

“Our seamless, reliable and affordable value proposition utilizing cellular technology has demonstrated the power to drive connected health ecosystems, transform diabetes management for patients and providers, improve outcomes and reduce cost of care,” said Cliff McIntosh, CEO of Smart Meter, LLC. “We are ramping up the commercialization of iGlucose and developing strategic partnerships to further advance access to our technology and improve patients’ ability to share data at the time of testing without technology barriers- all at an affordable price.”

Last April, Smart Meter announced that iGlucose met the requirements for the Remote Monitoring CPT Code for reimbursement, as defined by Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). In June, the company joined Glytec’s network of connected solution partners to bring timely, complete and accurate data to insulin titration. Glytec’s virtual insulin titration service is designed expressly for healthcare provider and payer organizations aiming to deliver the very best diabetes care while also curbing ever-increasing costs.

Later in the summer, iGlucose announced integration with Validic, the healthcare industry’s leading data connectivity platform. Together, the companies bring a simple, convenient and affordable diabetes management solution to people with diabetes, healthcare teams and population management programs.

Smart Meter also announced a partnership with Mellitus Health, Inc. in September. This gives healthcare providers using Mellitus’ Insulin Insights™ titration service, the first FDA-cleared and CE-registered clinician decision-support tool for titrating all types of insulin, all eight standard dosing regimens and 125 combinations of insulin, access to real-time patient data from iGlucose. The integration of the two technologies helps calculate precise insulin dosing recommendations for patients so healthcare teams can achieve HbA1c targets and better patient outcomes.

“Diabetes remains a costly and difficult to manage chronic disease but patients’ outcomes can be improved – and ultimately care costs can be driven down – through the adoption of cellular technologies, which enable seamless data sharing between patients and physician,” added McIntosh. “Once data becomes reliable, comprehensive and reimbursable, physicians will change how they manage patients with chronic diseases and patients will become more engaged and start to experience the direct benefit.”
