Smart Meter CEO Brings Real-Time Data Disruption to Growing Diabetes Management Sector

Why Cliff is a big deal: Cliff joined Smart Meter in 2014 as CEO, and has taken its proprietary glucose monitoring system from research and development to commercial launch this May and is now generating revenue. He spent 25 years of his career with Johnson & Johnson, having run units in Singapore, Paris, London and California. He left the company having established and overseen its J&J Diabetes Institute. It was responsible for training in diabetes care for several hundred health care professionals worldwide. The milestone with the multinational medical devices, pharmaceutical and consumer packaged goods giant was an opportunity to pursue his interest in running and growing companies. With family in the Brandon/Valrico area and two adult sons, he and his wife built a house in Apollo Beach and decided to make living in Tampa Bay both a business and lifestyle choice. Just drawing its first revenue, Smart Meter makes a glucose monitoring system called the “iGlucose DiabetesCare Solution.” It is a cell-enabled device that allows users to instantly communicate data and connect via text messages or emails to as many as 15 family members, caregivers and/or health care professionals without need for a smartphone, app, Wi-Fi or cables. It couples with a web-based patient portal and population management software to help practitioners make care more efficient and timely.
